Venue
This year, the final round of the Jacques Offenbach Grand Prix is taking place in the historical Marmorsaal (Marble Hall) of the Casino in Bad Ems, where Festival Gegen den Strom performs many of their events.
The fashionable spa town of Bad Ems was a regular destination for Jacques Offenbach between 1858 and 1870. On the one hand, his comedy troupe “bouffes-parisiens” played there in the summer months for the many French guests and he took a cure there to get rid of his gout, which troubled him early on. In addition, he composed his famous works and tried his hand at gambling in the casino, which was forbidden in France in those years.
